Take 3 cups of red lentils and wash thoroughly. Add ¼ tsp turmeric powder, ¼ tsp ginger paste, ¼ tsp garlic paste, ¾ bay leaves. Salt according to your taste. With enough hot water, put the pan on fire. Cook until it is half-cooked.
Take 2 cups of washed rice and 3 cups of mixed vegetables. Mix with the boiling lentils. Add hot water to cook well.
Heat ½ cup oil in another pan. Put 2 cups of sliced onions. When they have become a little brown, add 5 pieces cardamoms, 4-5 pieces of cinnamon sticks, ½ tsp garlic paste and ½ tsp ginger paste.
Cook over a medium-low heat. Soon, there will be pleasant aroma of spices wafting from the pan.
Now it is ready to be added to the pan of cooked lentils and cooked for another 5 minutes. 4-5 fresh green chillies and chopped coriander leaves will add more flavor. You can 2-3 tsp of butter or ghee, which will enhance the flavor and taste.
It is now ready to serve, with a chutney or salad. It is a perfect full meal, to be enjoyed by adults and children alike.
